londonprintstudio is pleased to present ‘Play’, an exhibition of new editions and art works including work by :- James Bates, Darren Bryant, Das Balloon, Richard Falle, Giulia Garbin, Serena Katt, Yeni Kim, Jochen Klein, Justin Larkin, Alex Massouras, Chris Mercier, Christopher Moon, Ralph Overill, Matthew Pagett, Pandemonia, Sumi Perera, John Phillips, Tom Robinson, Amikam Toren,Katherine Van Uytrecht, Fouzia Zafar.
Play has many meanings in contemporary culture – performance, manipulation, irony and disengagement – as well as naïve amusement and recreation. This exhibition brings together work that reflects different aspects of play; from Pandemonia’s extravagant performance art; the exploration of authenticity and expectations of Jochen Klein – to a frisbee packed with digital art.
The formative childhood experience of play may help release creativity and shape future lives. The transformative power of early creative experiences has been widely acknowledged, and Darren Bryant, Serena Katt and Justin Larkin feature children’s play as a subject.
Many works on show have a strong element of humour – sometimes overt – as we see with Giulia Garbin and Das Balloon, sometimes an undercurrent. And some are critical, as we see with Sumi Perera’s Pointless Wordplay.
Coinciding with the Christmas season, all the art works are for sale, including multiples at affordable prices.

*Jochen Klein’s Tabletop series are on loan from Vital Arts.

COR- Green

COR is a fanzine of illustration, risograph and colour. COR is formed by 16 international illustrators bound together by one colour that, for this first issue, is green.

I have recently participated in this new publication by Lentejas Press.

Lentejas Press is formed by Francesca Danesi, Elena Ortiz, Isabel Gómez Mondragón and Elena López Lanzarote. Under this name you will find lovingly self published zines." We enjoy publishing, paper, illustration, photography, books, gardens, lentils and green. That's way we have started this project...

"Lentejas Press is a house with garden, a city with a golden river, self published zines and colours."

Circulation- Post It Update

Tom Moore and I have produced a collaborative work from two different countries- since each collaborator resides in a different city, Dublin and London - that is the culmination of a series of drawings and discussions, printed via silkscreen and letterpress onto innumerable post-it notes, and subsequently pasted to a variety of public locations in each city. This isn’t necessarily an effort in vandalism however, but an action to silently cater to a larger audience, with the intention that this interrupts an array of people that would otherwise have gone undisturbed.

As is it is the very nature of the post-it note to be stuck where one can be reminded of an action or event that is yet to occur, or used as a tool for locating a particular item, we will paste our works in public, as an alternative to a flyer or poster, as a gentle reminder to those who happen upon them. The notes then cease to act as the carrier of messages, reminders or markers for an individual, but rather encourage a group dynamic. The content of the notes will vary, but will hopefully provoke thought about one’s ability and willingness to engage in cultural and political debate; to question outright our reasons for any indifference in our attitudes towards culture and politics, and to encourage a sense of participation in a community.

Circulation: Work in Progress

I am currently working on a project with Tom Moore to present in the exhibition CIRCULATION opening in Dublin 8 August 2013. Tom Moore is a Dublin born artist whose work involves illustration in different media, including traditional print making practices and animation.

Black Church Print Studio presents Circulation, an open submission and invited exhibition curated by Paul McAree that will take place across two Dublin-based venues - Monster Truck Gallery and FLOOD - in August 2013.

Commissioned by Black Church Print Studio to curate an exhibition based on the word 'circulation', McAree has focused on ideas around modes of 'production' and 'distribution'. Expressing an interest in works which demonstrate an economy of means, using easily available and cheap means of production - leaflets, photocopies, posters, printmaking, flyers, collage - the show will look at and subvert an approach to looking at social or political issues, while at the same time displaying an awareness of the modes of display and exhibition making.
