Tom Moore and I have produced
a collaborative work from two different countries- since each collaborator resides
in a different city, Dublin and London - that is the culmination of a series of
drawings and discussions, printed via silkscreen and letterpress onto innumerable post-it notes,
and subsequently pasted to a variety of public locations in each city. This
isn’t necessarily an effort in vandalism however, but an action to silently
cater to a larger audience, with the intention that this interrupts an array of
people that would otherwise have gone undisturbed.
As is it
is the very nature of the post-it note to be stuck where one can be reminded of
an action or event that is yet to occur, or used as a tool for locating a
particular item, we will paste our works in public, as an alternative to a
flyer or poster, as a gentle reminder to those who happen upon them. The notes
then cease to act as the carrier of messages, reminders or markers for an
individual, but rather encourage a group dynamic. The content of the notes will
vary, but will hopefully provoke thought about one’s ability and willingness to
engage in cultural and political debate; to question outright our reasons for
any indifference in our attitudes towards culture and politics, and to
encourage a sense of participation in a community.
